Spotlight on Accessibility

Findings

During the persona development process, I discovered that this app can greatly benefit individuals with visual impairments or color deficiencies.

Color Perception Challenges

Visually challenged or color-blind individuals may struggle with choosing and matching clothing due to unclear color labels and altered color perception, affecting their confidence and self-esteem.

Persona 2

  • Age: 22
Occupation: University student majoring in computer science
    Location: Chicago

    • Shaun is color deficient.

    • His mom has helped him pick out most of his clothes.

    • Relies heavily on others to help him choose clothes, but would like to be more independent in his style choices.

    • Balances a busy academic schedule with a vibrant social life, leaving little time to focus on organizing the room.

    • Outgoing and sociable; enjoys spending time with his many friends.

    • Appreciates convenience and technology-driven solutions.

    • Enthusiastic about exploring new trends and styles.

    • "When I hang out with friends, I want to look good without taking a long time to pick out what to wear."

Storyboard

I also created an emotional color mapping that highlights users’ feelings before and after using the app.

P.S. This also helped me identify some adjectives our app will target, such as interactive, nostalgic, safe, and fun.

Drawing on our established personas, I created a storyboard that highlights our user’s primary challenge.

Emotion Mapping

User Experience Goals

Based on the storyboard, I identified the above as the most important user experience goals.

Design Principles

Through the storyboarding, personas, and user goals, we identify the design principles most emphasized in the app. This clarification helps us understand the foundational layout that will effectively support the app.
  • Consistency in design ensures a cohesive and predictable user experience, reducing cognitive load and helping users navigate the app with ease.

  • Feedback in design helps users understand the outcomes of their actions, guiding them and building confidence in the app's functionality.

  • Learnability is important because it ensures that users can quickly understand and effectively use the app, even if they are new to it.

Mood Board

Some design inspirations drawn from existing technologies or real-world interactions.

  • Our first major influence is the iconic app from Clueless, widely recognized for its playful spirit and fashion-forward design.

  • Next, we explore how individuals with various types of color deficiency perceive the color spectrum.

  • Here, we explore the shows that set new trends. In a 2012 study, psychologist Beverly Fehr found that people were more likely to pursue friendships with those who were physically attractive versus those who were not.

  • “Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life” -Bill Cunningham. This quotes underscores the importance of being able to express through clothes.

  • Maintaining a consistent labeling system across all clothing items is important for easy identification.

  • The act of browsing and discussing items with friends can create a shared experience and provide opportunities for conversation and bonding.

  • Snapchat’s intuitive and user-friendly design—evidenced by its 383 million daily active users as of Q2 2023—makes it easy for people to pick up and quickly learn the app’s features.

  • Instagram’s calendar feature serves as an intuitive platform, making it easy to track daily outfits like a personal fashion journal.

Neuebrutalism

Color Scheme

Neuebrutalism in web design is a trend characterized by minimalist aesthetics, stark typography, and a raw, unpolished appearance. It emphasizes simplicity, functionality, and a departure from traditional design principles, often using bold colors and asymmetrical layouts.
